Trinity Episcopal Church By-the-Sea
At Trinity we say, 'E komo mai', WELCOME. We are an open family of faith. All are welcome without exception. We seek to establish the inclusivity of the kingdom of God - the Kingdom in our midst. Our very location gives voice to that open welcome because we are a unique open air sanctuary, with no doors to exclude; where the Love of Jesus Christ and the Hawaiian spirit of Aloha are shared under shady palms and among delightful Hawaiian gardens. The writer of Psalm 19 must have been thinking about us when writing, because as we come together here the heavens speak to us. They "declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." (v. 1) We gather in the shadow of Haleakala where it seems, in verse 4 God "has pitched a tent for the sun". (Haleakala literally means 'the house of the sun'). Under this canopy of sky, green and mountain our hearts are opened, our spirits are stirred and our voices rise in a spontaneous chorus of praise. Nature's beauty calls out of us an awe that gives us a voice to join the heavenly chorus that 'declares the glory of God.' Trinity by-the-Sea Episcopal Church is located in the coastal town of Kihei, the fastest growing community on the south shore of the island of Maui. The residents are a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic mix of local people, visitor industry workers, a population of temporary residents - 'snow birds' - who come from the mainland each winter to escape the cold, and many tourists who come for short vacations. Trinity Episcopal Church-by-the-Sea is an affiliate of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America and a member of the Worldwide Anglican Communion. The 'Aloha' spirit of Trinity-by-the-Sea is personified in the devout and dedicated members who exercise multiple ministries of service within the church and loving outreach to the local community. Come join us for a worship experience that will touch your very soul. What we Believe We believe that Jesus Christ who is the Son of the Father, begotten from everlasting of the Father, and of one Being with the Father, took on human nature in the womb of the blessed Virgin; who is one Christ, very God, and very Man; who truly suffered, was crucified, died, and was buried, to reconcile his Father to us, and to be a sacrifice, not only for original guilt, but also for our actual sins. We believe that Christ did truly rise again from death in accordance with the Scriptures; that he ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, until he returns again in glory to judge the living and the dead and that his kingdom will have no end. We believe that the Holy Spirit proceeding from the Father and the Son is of one substance, majesty and glory with the Father and the Son, very and eternal God. We believe that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament, of whose authority was never any doubt in the Church, contain all things necessary for salvation: so that whatsoever is not read therein, nor may be proved thereby, is not to be required of anyone that it should be believed, or be thought necessary for salvation.
